In a
collaborative effort, Susan Benjamin and Geoff Smith
have adapted several Kreighoff paintings to
needlepoint. They have chosen a #10 canvas and
encourage stitchers to use the Victorian
Cross-Stitch on these works to offset any possible
distortion. The design area of the first in this
series, The Sleigh Race, is 34" x 24", a size
suitable for either a wall-hanging or a hearth rug.
Wooling the canvas is, clearly, no simple feat.
Stitchers are encouraged to work the central design
first and to build their colours outwards from
there, adapting and adjusting as they go. Each of
these needlepoint canvases is an original work of
art, slightly different from all the others. They
do require a great deal more artistry on the part of
the stitcher but the end result promises to
be fabulous!
